SOUND ARCHIVE
In collaboration with Milap, 28 Indian musical Instruments were recorded in 2013. In these recording sessions, each musician provided a tour around their instrument, playing short sound bites, phrases, and musical ideas, to be used as musical examples on the Instrument India website. The website archive is an interactive resource, created to bring Milap's current and future audiences closer to Indian classical music and its wide range of versatile instruments. It is a rich and varied resource, containing an archive of sounds, images and videos of Indian instruments, on which visitors can discover the background of each instrument, how it is played, and the type of setting it is normally played in. Alongside this, the archive profiles the recorded musicians, with direct links to their websites and online stores.

The archive features instruments and vocals predominantly found within the Indian classical tradition which are typically seen within solo, duo or ensemble performances. A number of folk instruments of a less common nature also appear in the archive (for example, uddukai, shankha and swarmandal).

The Instruments INDIA archive provides a multipurpose learning platform, supporting young learners and newcomers who simply want to find out more about Indian instruments, while simultaneously acting as a concertgoer’s guide to Indian instruments showcased on stage at Indian classical music concerts around the UK and beyond.
